biography

Lenard D. Moore was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1958 and has lived in Raleigh since 1984. He is the current executive chairman of the North Carolina Haiku Society (NCHS) and he has served as associate editor of Pine Needles. His poetry has been translated into several languages.

Lenard teaches English and World Literature at Shaw University.

contests & awards

Lenard's awards include the Haiku Museum of Tokyo Award (1983 and 1994) and Mainichi Daily News Haiku in English Contest, 1st Place (1992). He is the recipient of The Heron's Nest Award (November 2001) and 1st Runner-up for the Editors' Choice Valentines Award (February 2002). He was nominated for the Prestigious Pushcart Prize (2002).

Lenard is the author of The Open Eye (1985), Forever Home (1992), and Desert Storm: A Brief History (1993). His poetry has appeared in over thirty anthologies, including The Haiku Anthology (Norton, 1999).
